The Toronto Maple Leafs will have a new logo at centre ice this season. Or should we say an old logo?
The Maple Leafs unveiled the classic logo in a social media post on Thursday. The logo helps mark the 100th anniversary of the team being renamed the Toronto Maple Leafs from its previous name, the Toronto St. Patricks.
The nod to history coincides with the team entering a new era under team president Mats Sundin and general manager John Chayka. That era was on full display Thursday as Gavin McKenna, the first overall pick in June's NHL Draft, took the ice for the first time in Maple Leafs colours.
The Maple Leafs open the regular season on Sept. 29 at home against the Montreal Canadiens.
